Deputies from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to two juveniles lost in the woods. The juveniles had gone for a walk on family property but quickly became disoriented and lost.
With the help of Alpena County Central Dispatch, the deputies were able to quickly locate the juveniles and return them to their parents. Both juveniles were cold and wet but not injured in this incident.
Deputies were also assisted on scene by Alpena DNR.
The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residence to have a plan before venturing out into the woods. Below are a few ways to prepare yourself before entering the woods.
- Tell someone where you are going and when you believe you will be back.
- Carry a cell phone and make sure the battery is charged.
- Carry a small back pack with water, food, a flashlight, a whistle, and a compass.
- Dress appropriately for the area and weather.
If you ever become lost in the woods; remain calm, call for help, and remain in one location and wait for help to arrive.
