JANUARY 24, 2024

press release

The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn residents of a scam brought to our attention today. A caller is identifying themselves as law enforcement and advising that the individual owes a bond. The caller then instructs for the payment to be made by prepaid debit cards, gift cards, or some type of electronic funds transfer.

The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office will never request bond to be paid over the phone or with the above types of payments. Bonds can only be posted in person. If you receive a call of this nature, please do not send money.
