Full Jail

On November 7th 2017 the citizens of Alpena County voted to Construct, Operate, Furnish and Equip a new Alpena County Jail.

Our new, state-of-the-art facility was completed in 2021 and inmates were moved into the facility on October 31, 2021. All operations are now conducted from this new facility.

  • 35% of the work was performed by 8 Alpena County contractors.
  • The new facility has 94 inmate beds. The old jail had 69.
  • The new facility is 28, 013 square feet. The old facility was 16, 500.
  • 49,500 concrete blocks were used in the construction.
