Snowmobile Division

SnowmobileThe Alpena County Sheriff's Office Snowmobile Division is responsible for patrolling local trails and the surrounding areas within Alpena County. Deputies enforce snowmobile laws and respond to snowmobile accidents and assist with search and rescue operations. Alpena County has an extensive trail system throughout the county that is maintained by the Alpena Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club.

Deputies with the Alpena County Sheriff's Office that work snowmobile patrol also teach snowmobile safety classes to area youth.

The Alpena County Sheriff's Office operates two snowmobiles which were purchased on snowmobile enforcement grants from the Department of Natural Resources.

Off-Road Vehicle Division

ATVThe Alpena County Sheriff's Office patrols on local trails and the surrounding area for ORV violations. Deputies assigned in the ORV Division also assist in Search and Rescue operations when needed. The ORV Division focuses efforts on education in an attempt to gain voluntary compliance with ORV laws and safety regulations. Enforcement continues to be a component of ORV safety, but education and compliance will create a safe and enjoyable experience.

The Alpena County Sheriff's Office patrols with a Yamaha UTV. This vehicle and trailer were purchased on a grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Deputies also teach Off-Road Vehicle safety courses seasonal or as needed. The Alpena County Sheriff's Office ORV patrol is overseen by Sergeant J.P. Ritter.
