Older Person's Committee
Mission Statement
The Committee serves as an advocate for the citizens of the County. The Committee is charged with the sole purpose of providing activities and services for older persons for Alpena County residents.
The Committee is also responsible for recommending to the County Board of Commissioners, hereinafter referred to as “Commissioners”, the prudent spending of public funds to promote older persons opportunities to Alpena County citizens.
The Alpena County Older Persons Committee, hereinafter referred to as “Committee” consists of one representative from each of the districts of the Alpena County Board of Commissioners. Terms of office for representatives from the County Commissioner districts are established to be the same as the elected members of the Board of Commissioners districts, which is a two-year term.
Operating Millage Proposition for Older Persons
“Shall the limitations on the amount of taxes which shall be assessed against all property both real and personal in Alpena County, Michigan be renewed as provided by Public Act 39 of 1976 (Activities and Service for Older Persons), and the Alpena County Board of Commissioners be authorized to levy a tax (renewal) not to exceed 0.55 of one (1) mill ($0.55 on each $1,000.00 of Equalized State Taxable Value) for a period of four (4) years starting with the Levy made December 1, 2022 for the sole purpose of providing “Activities and Services” for Older Persons in Alpena County, (individuals 60 years of age or older for social, health, educational, nutritional, recreational, and senior facility improvements and mobility service)s? (The estimate of revenue the County of Alpena will collect if the millage is approved and levied in the first year (2022) is $542,160).”
